The spring sports season was a pretty good one for Pungo Christian Academy.
The school’s baseball, softball and girls’ soccer teams made the state playoffs after successful seasons in the Tarheel Independent Conference. As a result, four of the school’s athletes from those spring teams were named to the All-State team by the NC Independent Schools Athletic Association.
Seniors Emma Harris (softball) and Evan Woolard (baseball) were chosen in their respective sports along with junior Parker Byrd (baseball) and freshman Lexy Tate (soccer).
Below is information on each athlete from PCA Athletic Director Logan Van Staalduinen.
Softball
Senior Emma Hanna
Hanna led the Lady Raiders with a .378 batting average, collecting a team high 17 hits and 15 RBI. She also led PCA with a fielding percentage of .961 with only three errors across 77 total chances. She was also selected to the Tarheel Independent Conference All-Conference and All-Tournament team this spring.
Soccer
Freshman Lexy Tate
Tate became the leading goal scorer for the Lady Raiders this spring, tallying 16 goals on the season. That placed her eighth among NCISAA Class 1A players. She was seventh overall in total points with 35. She was also selected to the TIC all-conference and all-tournament team this spring.
Baseball
Senior Evan Woolard
Woolard was the go-to man at the plate and on the mound for Pungo this season. He led the team with a .457 batting average to go along with 17 RBI. He led all Class 1A pitchers with 82 strikeouts on the season. He was also named to the TIC all-conference team.
Junior Parker Byrd
He was the leadoff man for the Raiders and had the second highest batting average, going .352 with a team-high 25 hits. He also led the team in doubles with six on the year and was a consistent presence for PCA in the outfield in the centerfield position. He was also named to the TIC all-conference team.
