Martin County officer-involved shooting under investigation

Hamilton, NC — Martin County District Attorney Thomas D. Anglim disclosed that an officer-involved shooting (OIS) occurred in the area of Hamilton, Martin County. Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Deputies were involved in an investigation in the area of Front Street in Hamilton, NC. During the investigation circumstances developed that led to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office requesting the assistance of the Emergency Response Team of the Greenville Police Department (GPD ERT). Martin County Sheriff Drew Robinson contacted District Attorney Anglim about the ongoing nature of the investigation early this morning.

During the investigation an individual was shot by a law enforcement officer with the GPD. An emergency medical responder present at the scene rendered immediate medical aid. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

Greenville Police Department ERT and the MCSO secured the scene. District Attorney Anglim requested the State Bureau of Investigation to conduct an independent investigation into the OIS.

District Attorney Anglim reported, per standard protocol, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative assignment pending the outcomes of both the SBI investigation and any concurrent internal review by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office and the Greenville Police Department.

District Attorney Anglim requests that any further inquiries be directed to his office.
