George Hobart “Hobie” Brown, Jr., age 79, of Washington NC passed away peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2025.

A funeral service will be held 11:00AM Wednesday June 11, 2025 at the Church of the Good Shepherd, officiated by Pastor Jay Martin. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Tuesday June 10, 2025 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.

Hobie was born in Southport, NC, the son of Hobart and Flora Belle (Hewett) Brown. Raised in Washington, he attended Washington High, graduating from Fork Union Military Academy. He attended Wake Forest University, always cheering for his Deacs. After graduating from Atlantic Christian College, he became a financial advisor in Rocky Mount, NC. With Brenda Ellmore Brown, he has two sons, Bart (Courtney) and Patrick (Lauren), and seven grandchildren: Brittany (Connor), Christian, Addie, Braylen, Rosalie, Ben, and Lucille.  Hobie loved his family and enjoyed prison ministry, bible studies, and Full Gospel Businessmens’ Fellowship. He later married Barbara Dunlap, cherishing their years together.

He was preceded in death by his parents Hobart and Flora Belle, as well as his brother, Hewett Brown. He is survived by his brother Allen (Clair) Brown of Winterville, NC.
