From Blounts Creek Volunteer Fire Department
At 2:38 a.m. Blounts Creek Volunteer Fire Department members were requested and dispatched to respond mutual aid with Chocowinity Fire Department for a working residential structure fire on Taylor Road in Chocowinity.
When our units arrived a drafting and water shuttle operation was being set up due to the large amount of water that would be needed for the fire. Blounts Creek Engine 20 set up at a drop tank and drew a draft and began feeding water to Washington Fire Engine 2 who had multiple handlines on the ground with crews fighting the fire. Blounts Creek Engine 21 fell in line with multiple other tankers and began hauling water to supply the the drafting operation.
Fire crews from five departments operated for four hours to bring the fire under control and get it fully extinguished.
All of this was done during an intense thunderstorm passing through the area which dumped several inches of rain in a short amount of time causing flooding and dangerous conditions. No injuries were reported and crews cleared the just after 6 a.m. Approximately 15,000 – 17,000 gallons of water was hauled by tankers and used to extinguish the fire.
