Beaufort County Schools is requesting the community’s help in selecting Washington Elementary School’s mascot. The new elementary school combines Eastern and John Cotten Tayloe Elementary Schools in Washington. 

According to Beaufort County Schools, Washington Elementary is “on track” to open in August of 2026. It will be located behind Eastern Elementary at 947 Hudnell Street.

The school district posted to its social media page a link to a survey with four questions asking how the respondent is connected to the school, what type of mascot they prefer, any specific mascots they suggest and which color combinations they think would represent the school best.

The survey did not say how long it would remain open.
