Raleigh, NC — Today, Rep. Keith Kidwell and the North Carolina House Republican Caucus announced that House Bills 441 and 442 — which were amended in the Senate to ban trawling and pay out affected shrimpers — will not be heard in the House, effectively saving North Carolina’s shrimping industry.

Rep. Kidwell, who represents Beaufort, Dare, Hyde, and Pamlico counties, said:

“Our shrimpers don’t want a payout — they want a paycheck. These are hardworking men and women who have built their lives around this industry. I’m proud that House Republicans listened to their constituents and took another look at these misguided bills.”
