Note: Beaufort County Post 15 bounced back after splitting two games on Sunday with a 14-2 win over Edenton on Wednesday. The team will host Perquimans on Friday at 7 and Lawrence for two games on Sunday starting at 4:30. We’ll have coverage of the home games on our website and in next week’s newspaper.

CHOCOWINITY, N.C. — Winning two out of three games in baseball is considered pretty good. However, it’s just not good enough in a very competitive Junior American Legion Area 1 play.
Beaufort County Post 15’s squad beat Edenton last Friday, 13-3, but split Sunday’s doubleheader with Wilson, winning the first game 10-0 and dropping the second one, 7-5. It was the second loss of the season for Beaufort County and puts the team in a continued tight battle with Roanoke, Lawrence and Wilson as the regular season winds down.
Post 15 had a road game Wednesday at Edenton then will have home games with Perquimans on Friday along with a doubleheader with Lawrence on Sunday.

Friday’s game was the first time this season that Beaufort County had scored in the first inning.
With two outs, Koda Small reached on an error. Andrew Oneil, running for Small, later scored on a shallow center hit by Landon Griffin. A passed ball scored Carter Williams, who was hit by a pitch, and Keegan Mitchell singled in Griffin, giving Beaufort County a 3-0 lead.
Post 15 blew it open in the third inning with four runs then got three more in the sixth for the 10-run rule.Seth Reason scored on a wild pitch and Griffin scored on a bases-loaded walk for a 6-0 lead. Post 15 also had four hits in the inning and benefited from two errors as eight batters went to the plate.

Luke Alligood had another solid start in Sunday’s first game.
He six innings with two hits, two hit batters, a walk and four strikeouts. Beaufort County scored in the first inning again then blew the game open in the fourth with seven runs on two hits, an error and four walks. A walk and wild pitch scored two runs while Small drove in a run and an error on a ball hit by Griffin plated two more.
Beaufort County sent 10 batters to the plate in that frame.

Beaufort County missed some golden opportunities in the nightcap game and it proved costly.
Wilson took a 3-1 lead in the fourth with a two-run double. Post 15 tied it in the sixth and then took the lead. Back-to-back hits by Small and Williams got the team fired up. An error with Griffin batting scored Small to make it 3-2. A single by Evan Lee drove in another run before a wild pitch scored Griffin to give Beaufort County a 4-3 lead.
Wilson came right back and scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth on four hits. Post 15 had to make two pitching changes during the inning.
Post 15 got a run back in the seventh when Williams drove in Small, who singled.
Beaufort County coach Bobby Boyd had a long heart-to-heart talk with his team after that loss as the squad looks to bounce back.
