Mrs. Helen Wright Dail Gurganus, age 68, a resident of 241 Chandler Road, Vanceboro, NC died Wednesday March 10, 2010 at her home.
A graveside funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday March 12, 2010 at Oakdale Cemetery of Washington officiated by Rev. Henry Horne. Kenny Gaskins, Randy Roberson, Brandon Smith, Austin Smith, Kendell Smith and Joshua Gaskins will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Gurganus was born in Asheboro, NC on June 12, 1941 daughter of the late Carl Lee Wright and Mabel Claire VonCannon, who survives. She was a 1959 graduate of Chocowinity High School. On April 14, 1990 she married Robert F. Gurganus, Jr., who survives. Mrs. Gurganus worked as a hair stylist in the Washington area for over 30 years. She was presently employed as a night stocker at Wal-Mart of Washington. She was a member of Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband and mother of the home, Mrs. Gurganus is survived by a son; Carl “Alton” Smith and wife Christy of Dobson, NC, a daughter; Crystal Smith Gaskins and husband Kenny of Washington, NC, a step-son; Robert K. Gurganus and wife Becky Jo of Bear Grass, NC three brothers; Darrell Wright of Efland, NC, Bill Wright and wife Janice of Asheboro, NC and J.B. “Cotton” Wright and wife Elaine of Supply, NC, five grandchildren; Brandon ,Austin and Kendell Smith, Megan and Joshua Gaskins, four step-grandchildren; Laura Beth, Andrew, Kaylan and Michael Gurganus.
In addition to her father, Mrs. Gurganus is preceded in death by a sister, Hilda Edwards.
The family will receive friends on Friday March 12, 2010 from 1-2 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and other times at the home.
