WDN 2012 All-Area Volleyball Team

Published 2:37pm Wednesday, January 9, 2013

With the rise of upstart teams along with the stellar play of traditional powers, the 2012 volleyball season was an exciting one that no doubt left area fans anxiously waiting for the next one.
Washington continued to trend in the right direction as WDN Coach of the Year Kelly Slade led the Pam Pack to its first playoff appearance in 15 years in only her second year with the team.
At Southside, first-year coach Rosiland Grimes is working toward getting her Seahawks on the right track, while at Northside new/old coach Tami Wagaman was back on the sideline after a brief hiatus and quickly made the Panthers a fearsome bunch.
Meanwhile at Riverside, WDN Player of the Year Madison Brandon and the Knights continued to slay opponents as they won another Four Rivers Conference title and finished the year with a phenominal 24-2 record.
Overall, the year was an exciting one and the Washington Daily News would like to honor some of the players that made the season so much fun with its All-Area team.

MEGAN COREY,
WASHINGTON
A dynamic player on both sides of the net, Washington’s junior middle hitter Megan Corey used her long and athletic frame to rack up a team-high 145 kills and 66 blocks. Corey, the Coastal Conference Co-Player of the year, was the driving force behind Washington’s first playoff appearance since 1997.

JESSE ANNE ROGERS, RIVERSIDE
A tremendous all-around player, Riverside’s Jesse Anne Rogers was skillful at the net where she tallied 147 kills and 25 blocks, but was even more valuable in the serving game. The Knights senior dished out a team-high 165 service points and 72 aces to help lead Riverside to another Four Rivers Conference crown.

JORDAN WOOLARD, NORTHSIDE
It was another stellar season for Jordan Woolard as the Northside senior middle hitter was the backbone of a quality Panthers team. Woolard is a two-time WDN All-Area first-teamer and provided tremendous scoring punch for the Panthers with her powerful spikes.

KASEY HALL,
RIVERSIDE
Another year, another rising star for the Riverside volleyball program as sophomore Kasey Hall turned in a breakout performance in 2012. The Knights setter routinely dished out pinpoint passes to the Riverside hitters as she handed out 725 assists on the year.

ALEXIS ANGE,
RIVERSIDE
The Knights volleyball team finished with a 24-2 record and made it all the way to the fourth round of the playoffs thanks to explosive offense, but every team needs a defense star and Ange was just that for Riverside. Ange has an excellent nose for the ball and great reflexes as evident by her team-high 111 digs on the year.

RACHEL BAKER,
RIVERSIDE
Though she was hampered throughout the year by some injuries, Riverside senior Rachel Baker still managed to turn in another great season. The Knights hitter smashed 170 kills this year while blocking 44 shots and scoring 88 service points.
