The Washington Garden Club’s Feb. 8 meeting at the Estuarium was called to order by Jane Fields, president. Chris Young introduced and welcomed new members Lyn Sanders and Suzanne Anderson. They were presented with plants, name tags and yearbooks. Hostesses for the meeting were Kathy Hanna, Mary Alice Chapin, Judy Edwards and Joan Moss.
Chris Young introduced speaker Ben Davis, owner of Leggett Farm Organics on U.S. Highway 264 West of Washington. He spoke about organic foods and Community Sponsored Agriculture programs. He described the organic farming movement in agriculture and explained his methodology.
The club’s March meeting will be held March 8 at the Senior Center (not the 10th as printed in the yearbook). The April 12 meeting will be relocated to the Senior Center (instead of Cypress Landing). Hostesses for the meeting are Jenny Waite, Carol Heitman and Joann Taylor.
Dee Congleton reported that a new sign for the Third and Market  Streets Garden was needed, and requested that a new one be made. Motion made and approved unanimously. Norma Lathan requested that any extra flower pots from members be dropped off at her house in Washington; she will pot up plants for the May Plant Sale. Eleanor Broderick, Herb Sale chairman, reminded members that the Herb Sale is May 4, and that pass-along plants are good sellers. Treasurer Ann Rafferty reported on the treasury balance.
Nancy Nash thanked those who participated in the Bench Show, “I’m Feeling Springy.” She also indicated that she would be willing to have a flower arranging workshop. Susan McFarland, chairman of the Community Recognition Committee, discussed a proposed logo for the club and some of the ways it might be used.
The March meeting will feature Clay Carter speaking on the many wildflowers native to this area.
