WCCC schedules fundraiser

Washington Community Care Coalition, which provides food to the community’s needy through various programs, is presenting a back-to-school event Aug. 3 at fire station No. 1 (corner of Fifth and Market streets).

The event begins at 10 a.m. and concludes at 2 p.m.

This event includes giving children in kindergarten through fourth grade backpacks, cold drinks and hot dogs. Fish plates and barbecue plates will be sold for $7 each. Lt.

William Chrismon with the Washington Police Department and Alvin Powell, a former FBI agent, are scheduled to speak. Powell is president of the Beaufort County Police Activities League, which works with area youth. The police department will give small items to participating children.
