Bad weather broke two longstanding Summer Festival traditions: Friday night’s fireworks and a performance by the Craig Woolard Band.

“They always do the Friday nights,” said Jeanne Niederhauser with the Washington-Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce. “And the people here love having him back.”

Friday night, Beaufort County will get its just desserts when the Craig Woolard Band takes the stage at Festival Park for a two-hour show.

Woolard, a native of Washington, offered to reschedule his rained-out show. The night will end with the fireworks show that was originally scheduled for June 7.

“We’re calling it Summer Festival, part two,” said Catherine Glover, executive director of the chamber.

The Summer Festival rides and vendors will not make a second appearance, but the chamber has found a handful of vendors to take their places. Kona Ice, Papa John’s Pizza, funnel cakes and homemade ice cream will be sold at the event. Glow sticks will be available.

If the volume of calls the chamber has received is any indication, Niederhauser said, a big crowd would attend the free 7:30 p.m. performance.

“It’s just a great family night out,” she said. “Fun for all ages.”
