Mr. Johnnie Merrion Clark, age 84, a former resident of Frederick Road, Chocowinity, died Monday, March 10, 2014 at River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Washington.

 

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, March 13, 2014 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington conducted by Rev. Frederick Dixon and Rev. Ronnie Gurganus. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.

 

Mr. Clark’s grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers: J.D. Clark, Justin Clark, Eugene Clark, Cadin Clark, Lee Edwards and Dalton Edwards.

 

Mr. Clark was born in Beaufort County on November 5, 1929.  He was the son of the late Oscar Clark and Laura McRoy Clark. Mr. Clark was a farmer and worked for many years and retired from Mitchell Tractor Company. He was a member of Hodges Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mr. Clark was a loving father and husband, who enjoyed cooking and feeding his family and friends.

 

On January 19, 1950, Mr. Clark married the former Margie Ree Paramore, who preceded him in death, September 29, 2000. On May 21, 2001, he married the former Zelma Rowe Gaskins, who survives.

 

Surviving with his wife are his children, Johnnie Douglas Clark and wife, Kathy of Washington, Grace C. Mills and husband, Herbert of Grimesland, Denise C. Dixon and husband, Randy of Washington, Lorraine C. Fillingame and husband, Pittman of Vanceboro; four grandchildren, J.D. Clark, Eugene Clark, Lee Edwards, Brandi Dixon; six great grandchildren, Cadin, Justin, Shane, Dylan, Dalton and Kayla; four step children, Tommy Rowe and wife, Pat of Chocowinity, Judy Norris and husband, Stanley of Vanceboro, Sharon Owens and husband, Bobby of Chocowinity, Jacky Rowe and wife, Evelyn of Chocowinity; six step grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren.

 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Clark was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Margie Ree Paramore Clark; two brothers, Snodie Clark and Eddie Clark; two sisters, Ruby Linton and Bessie Carawan and a son in law, Danny Edwards.

 

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at his home, 760 Frederick Road, Chocowinity and the home of his daughter, Denise Dixon, 1446 Robersonville Road, Washington.
