The Beaufort County Republican Club hosted the Republican sheriff candidates forum at the Mecca Grill in downtown Washington last Thursday night.

In attendance were candidates Donald Dixon, Rick Guthrie and Harry Meredith. Because of an earlier commitment, Ernie Coleman was unable to attend.

More than 50 members and guests listened as the candidates answered a series of questions designed to educate the audience as to their leadership abilities, experience in law enforcement and ideas on how to make the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office better serve county residents. Each candidate answered the same questions, and although there were many similarities, differences in background, experience and ideas for the future were highlighted. All candidates remained after the meeting to mingle with those wishing to ask more questions and meet with them personally.

“We thank these candidates for taking time to attend, and we thank our guests and members for taking advantage of the opportunity to better inform themselves for this very important election. We believe that the main mission of the Republican Club is to elect Republican candidates to office and the best way to do that is to inform the public as to our candidate’s qualifications,” reads an email from the club.
