Saturated fat facts

BEAUFORT COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT | CONTRIBUTED HEART RISKY: Saturated fat is a fat that can cause health problems such as cardiovascular disease when one eats too much of it. There are different types of fat in our foods, some good and some bad. Knowing which foods have high amounts of saturated fat is important, so that one can avoid it in their diet. As seen in the graph, saturated fat is found in red meat, cheese, cakes, high fat dairy products, butter, and condiments. You can limit your consumption of saturated fat by choosing low fat cheeses and milk, lean beef, skinless chicken and turkey, low fat mayonnaise and sour cream, and limiting desserts such as cake and ice cream to once a week.
