WILLIAM DIMSDALE

Sep. 1, 1936 – July 13, 2014

 

Mr. William Dimsdale, age 77, a resident of Chocowinity, died Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

A memorial service with military honors will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, July 17, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Chocowinity, conducted by Dr. Richard Sheriff.

Mr. Dimsdale was born in Hughes County, South Dakota on September 1, 1936. He was the son of the late Laurence Dimsdale and May Lou Edna Jones Dimsdale.  Mr. Dimsdale was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Class of 60, where he remained active in his class activities.   While serving in the Naval Reserve, he was Director of the Joint Cruise Missile Project for the Navy.  He has lived in Falls Church, Va., Northumberland, Pennsylvania (where he owned and operated a campground), St. George, Utah (where he became a real estate agent) and for the past seven years, in Chocowinity. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chocowinity and sang in the choir.    In his spare time, Mr. Dimsdale loved to fly radio controlled airplanes and snow ski (he had been a member of the National Ski Patrol).

Mr. Dimsdale was married to the former Sharon Ann Tharpe, who survives.

Mr. Dimsdale had two children, John Kelly and wife, Jennifer of Steamboat Springs, Col., Rebecca Lapp and husband, Chas of Savannah, Ga.; two step children, Trisha Kennedy of Greenville, NC, Michael Kennedy of Williamsport, PA; six grandchildren, Alexia Kennedy, Tyler Kennedy, Karenna Lapp, Chars Lapp, Roxanna Kelly, Austin Kelly.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Dimsdale was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Dimsdale.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Chocowinity.
