KEVIN DUFFUS | CONTRIBUTED THE TRIUMPHANT RETURN: On July 12, over 400 people witnessed the return of Black Beard’s pirates to the port town of Bath. During “Pirates in the Port,” re-enactors portrayed the triumphant return of British soldiers to the town after a battle near Ocracoke ended in the death of the notorious pirate and the capture of several of his crewmembers. The pirates were rowed to the town docks and marched to Bonner Point. The daylong affair featured lectures by noted Black Beard historian Kevin Duffus and archeologist Dr. Charlie Ewen.
