RICHARD H. AVERY

March 11, 1917 – Aug. 12, 2014

 

Mr. Richard Hall Avery, age 97, a resident of 1991 West Barr Road, Chocowinity, died Tuesday, August 12, 2014.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, August 15, 2014 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and will be conducted by Pastor Ronnie Gurganus. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Jacob Rowe III, Anthony Rowe, Brandon Rowe, Matthew Tyndall, Robert Alton II and Anthony Cox will serve as pallbearers. Dave Alton, Sue Alton and Sherri Cox will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Avery was born in Craven County on March 11, 1917 to the late John and Rebecca Jenkins Avery. He was the last of thirteen children. On October 8, 1938 he married Annie Belle Holton who preceded him in death on August 30, 1994. He was a farmer and attended Hodges Chapel Church.

Survivors include one son, Richard Avery and wife Betty of Pine Mountain, Georgia, four daughters, Tessie Elks and husband Leroy, Pauline Stilley and husband Wade, Linda Rowe and husband Jacob, Judy Mobley and husband Jimmy all of Chocowinity, ten grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and ten great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Avery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home of Pauline and Wade Stilley, 520 Possum Track Road, Chocowinity.
