YEATESVILLE — The Northside cross-country team was logging in the miles this past weekend as they competed at Lake Kristi. Clear skies and mild temperatures allowed for

an opportunity to establish new personal best times.

Northside standout sophomore Holden Newman didn’t beat his 17-minute and 47-second personal record, but did take a few steps in the right direction. Holden moved up from his finishing position last year (52nd place; time 19:22) to 28th place with 18 minutes and 34 seconds. Holden was asked about the difficulty of the course.

Holden stated, “Going over the hill was hard at the beginning and taking it on again was even harder.” When asked if he was happy with him performance he said, “Not really.” He went on to describe if he could do it over he would hit the seventeens. Holden’s personal best time this season was established at Pamlico High School. He will get another opportunity to repeat this mark, since the conference meet will be held in Bayboro.

Several Panthers had another reason to celebrate, as sophomore Nathaniel Bowen established a personal record with a new time of 22 minutes and 13 seconds. Bowen was able to accomplish a 32-second drop in time on a more challenging course at Lake Kristi.

On the girls’ side, senior Jethzabel Alonso removed 32 seconds from her time and walked away with a new personal record with a time of 26 minutes and 56 seconds. She describes the course as a challenge, but a good course. Sophomore Aleah Brinn came home with a personal record and took 29 seconds off the clock. The biggest reduction in personal time came from freshman Sierra Corley, who removed two minutes and five seconds (28:03).

Panthers’ next race will be at East Carteret High School on Tuesday with race time starting at 4 p.m.
