MARGARET ANN STOWE HARGETT

Dec. 14, 1924 – Oct. 17, 2014

 

Margaret Ann Stowe Hargett, 89, died peacefully October 17, 2014 at her home in Wilmington, NC.  Margaret was born December 14, 1924 in Washington, NC to Benjamin Dailey Stowe and Margaret Spencer Wells Stowe.  She attended Women’s College of Greensboro and during WWII worked for the FBI in Washington DC.  After the war, she returned to her hometown and married Christopher Barker “Pete” Hargett on April 3, 1947.  Together they ran Hargett’s Drug Store in Greenville, NC for many years until they retired to Atlantic Beach.  She later moved to Wilmington where she lived for the last eight years.

Margaret was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church and loved reading, scrabble, painting, crafts, music, and most of all her family.  She was preceded in death by her husband Pete, her sisters, Florence Stowe Roebuck and Donna Stowe Wooten, her brothers, Benjamin D. Stowe, Jr., and Edward “Buddy” Stowe.

Margaret is survived by five sons, Ernest Hargett and wife Cathy of Wilmington, Christopher Hargett and wife Sheila of Raleigh, Peter Hargett and wife Beth of Harker’s Island, Joel Hargett of Zebulon, and Greg Hargett and wife Betsy of Washington. 9 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, Wilmington on Wednesday, October 22nd, at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, Wilmington, NC or the charity of ones choice.
