LOVICK “L.P.” HARRIS JR.

Sept. 19, 1929 – Dec. 12, 2014

 

Mr. Lovick Purvis “L.P.” Harris, Jr. age 85, a resident of 221 S. Boyd Road, Pinetown, died Friday night December 12, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM on Thursday December 18, 2014 at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington officiated by Billy Ray Askew.  Burial will follow at the Harris Family Cemetery at the home.  Pat Harrington, Jobie Columbus, Kevin Tetterton, Dale Oden, Galin Ambrose and Scott Sheppard will serve as pallbearers.  Bennie Marsh, Bennie Ambrose and Buddy Shavender will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Harris was born in Beaufort County on September 19, 1929, son of the late Lovick “Purvis” Harris, Sr. and Rosa Blanch Tetterton Harris.  He was a member of the 1947 graduating class of Bath High School.  On June 4, 1955 he married the former Margaret Naomi Knight who survives.  Mr. Harris was a farmer and owner/operator of L.P. Harris Trucking.  He was also a well-known mechanic and welder.  Mr. Harris served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of Hunters Bridge Church of Christ.

In addition to his wife, Margaret of the home, he is survived by his children:  Gail Harris Asby of Pinetown, Shelia Alligood and husband Randy of Washington, Billy Harris and wife Phyllis of Washington and Larry Dale Harris and wife Beverly of Pinetown; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son: Lovick Purvis Harris, III and his sister: Christine Tankard.

The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday December 17, 2014 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks for memorials to be made to L.P. Harris Memorial Fund, 221 S. Boyd Road, Pinetown, NC  27865.
