The annual January sale put on by the Friends of the Brown Library was a big success again this year. We had a net profit of $15,916.76.

It takes many helping hands to accomplish this success year after year. It begins with the planning by the Board of the Friends. The next important step is the donation of books, CDs, DVDs that so many of you put in the basket at the library. Our great volunteers under supervision of Ginny Warren have already packed many boxes for next year. We accept books in good condition but no textbooks, technical books or VCR tapes. Without so many of you donating books in good condition and all of you that come to buy the books our sale would never be such a success. We also have to thank Coastal Mini Storage and Nancy Nash for storage space for over 1,100 boxes of books. There is a group of wonderful volunteers that helped from Tuesday morning to late Wednesday afternoon setting up tables, unpacking boxes and sorting books.

Many of these volunteers come every year to help and have become so efficient that we are now able to do the job in two days instead of three and a half. It takes much less time for us to clean up after the sale we have it down to about two hours.

We can’t forget the many cashiers that each help for a few hours. We can always use more help before, after and during the sale. If you are interested in helping next year, the sale set up will begin at the Civic Center on Tuesday, Jan.19, 2016, at 9 a.m. Just come over and we will give you a job.

To become a Friend of the Brown Library the cost is only $15 per family and allows free admission to our very interesting programs throughout the year. You can pick up an application at the library. While there, take a few minutes to look around at all the new additions that have been added by all the Friends of the Library. All profit goes to purchase items for the Library such as books, computers, History Library, audio/visual programs, CDs and DVDs, a wonderful children’s program and new young adult group. Please check out our website, www.friendsofbrownlibrary.com, for information on upcoming programs. Thank you so much to all of you that help us make the Brown Library the wonderful place it is.
