TUESDAY ROUND UP: Southside volleyball breaks 19-match losing streak

COLUMBIA — The Southside volleyball team won its first match since Oct. 10, 2013 on Tuesday with a 3-0 sweep of Columbia.

The Seahawks edged the Wildcats in the first game, 25-19, before closing out the second (25-11) and third (25-12) games in dominant fashion.

Sophomore Symone Ruffin led all hitters with 10 kills, while Sarah Singleton followed with five kills and four aces.

With the win, Southside improves to 1-1 and will face Washington on Monday in Chocowinity for the home opener.

 

WASHINGTON SOCCER ROUTS RIVERSIDE

WILLIAMSTON — The Washington soccer team defeated Riverside by the mercy-rule score of 9-0 on Tuesday.

The Pam Pack came out firing with six goals in the first half, closing the match out with three goals in the second half.

Senior Kyle Hodges scored a game-high four goals, bringing his season total to five through two games, while midfielder Miguel Hernandez followed with two goals. Freddy Jimenez, Dylan Singleton and Rob Zerniak all scored one goal apiece.

With the win, Washington improves to 2-0 and will face J.H. Rose at Choppy Wagner Stadium on Tuesday in the home opener.
