Samuel Lawrence Ellis Jr., 79, died Saturday, August 22, 2015. The funeral service will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at Cedar Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Lewellyn officiating; burial will follow at Jamesville Cemetery.

Mr. Ellis was born in Martin County on September 24, 1935, son of the late Samuel Lawrence Ellis Sr. and Martha Jones Ellis. He was a retired insurance salesman with United Insurance Company and a former owner of Ellis Tire Service for several years.

He was a member of Cedar Branch Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Navy.

In addition to his parents, sisters Neva Stalls, Delsie Carraway and Essie Stalls also preceded him in death.

On December 17, 1955 he married Geraldine Holliday Ellis who survives. Survivors in addition to his wife are daughters: Kathy Dickerson and husband Tony of Jamesville, Karen Cullipher and husband Ronnie of Beaufort, Kaye Beddard and husband Wesley of Angier and Kim Gurganus and husband Marvin of Jamesville; son: Samuel Lawrence Ellis III and Nan of Jamesville; brother: Wayne Ellis and wife Judy of Rocky Mount; sisters: Dorothy Griffin of Williamston and Joan Brown and husband Travis of Jamesville; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews who adored him.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00-7:00 PM at Cedar Branch Baptist Church and other times at the residence, 2561 Brown Road, Jamesville, NC.
