THURSDAY ROUND UP: Washington soccer routs Edenton in home opener

The Washington soccer team coasted by Edenton Holmes in the home opener on Thursday, 9-0.

Controlling about 80 percent of the overall possession, the Pam Pack midfield stifled the Aces attack and limited the opposition to just three shots (all saved by goalie William Tate), while Washington combined for 22 shots in 47 minutes of play before activating the mercy rule.

Senior Freddy Jimenez led all scorers with a hat trick, almost making it four goals with a missed bicycle kicks over the bar with eight minutes to go in the half. Senior Kyle Hodges finished with two goals, while Gabriel Vallez-Torres, Uriel Castanon, Miguel Hernandez and Erik Ruiz combined for the rest of the scoring.

With the win, Washington remains undefeated at 4-0 and will rematch Edenton Holmes on the road Monday at 6 p.m.

 

SOUTHSIDE VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN FOUR GAMES TO SOUTH CREEK

ROBERSONVILLE — The Southside volleyball team dropped its second-straight match on Thursday against South Creek, 3-1.

The Cougars powered their way through the first two games, 25-17, 26-24, before the Seahawks were able to take the third game, 25-20. South Creek closed out the final game, 25-18.

With the loss, Southside drops to 1-3 and will host Columbia on Monday, a team they beat 3-0 back on Aug. 18.
