THE A TO Z DOLL CLUB
The A to Z Doll Club met recently at the Golden Corral Restaurant in Washington. President Diana Cates called the meeting to order and Martha Robbins asked the blessing. Others present included members Betty Ross, Shirley Woolard, Colleen Lupton, Marguerite Ferry, Patricia Harris, Donna Hodges, Joyce Carawan and Martha Seighman and guests Brook and Briley Hodges and Marty Buchanan.
Secretary Seighman read the July minutes and treasurer Woolard gave her report. Much discussion was held regarding the A to Z Doll Club Doll, Bear and Toy Show to be held on Oct. 31 at the Tar Heel Variety Theater in Chocowinity.
The group discussed a Doll Show in Richmond on Nov. 7, in which Martha R. and Gloria Windley will participate. Several members plan to attend an overnight trip.
Members were given Doll Show flyers to distribute and raffle tickets to sell. A photograph was included of the doll to be raffled, a Marie Osmond doll “Strawberries and Cream.” Another doll, a Madam Alexander doll, was offered by Diana for the drawing.
Donna will be official photographer for the show, and Bubbles the Clown will be available for pictures with kids in dressed for the costume contest.
Betty told about her table decorations, which included school dolls and a boy pledging allegiance to the flag in memory of Sept. 11.
The members surprised Betty for her birthday month. Pins with an announcement from the Washington Daily newspaper regarding her 80th birthday were distributed (including Betty herself) and all stood to serenade the birthday girl.
Door prizes donated by Shirley, Betty, Diana and Patricia were won by Diana, Donna, Shirley, Marguerite and Martha R.
Show and tell participants included Brooke, Martha S, Marguerite Martha R., Shirley, Patricia, Marty and Diana.
Martha R. read “What Love is according to 5 and 6-year olds,” which ended with how to learn to love — start with someone you can’t stand.
The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 28 at Golden Corral Restaurant in Washington. Anyone desiring to join the club or to learn about dolls/doll-collecting is invited to attend.
