Mrs. Peachy Mae Wells Edwards, age 87, a resident of 215 Waterford Place, Washington, died Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 19, 2015 in the chapel at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, conducted by Doug Batchelor and Jerry Norris. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

The following will serve as pallbearers: Clifton Lee, Jeremy Wallace, Michael Sheppard, Spencer Corey, Bradley Lane and Donnie Mizelle.

Mrs. Edwards was born in Beaufort County on July 27, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Henry Wells and Agnes Bertie Wells. Mrs. Edwards married Alpha Dixon Edwards Sr. who preceded her in death on March 22, 1987. Together they were owners of Alpha’s Market Meat & Grocery for more than twenty years. Mrs. Edwards was a loving mother and grandmother who loved to talk and watch T.V.

Survivors include a son, Thomas “Tommy” Britton Edwards; a daughter, Nellie Yvette Walkinshaw; a sister, Gladys Jean Turner; four grandchildren, Austin B. Cutler, Joshua T. Edwards, Linsay Edwards, Brittany E. Unkefer; one great-grandson, Rilen Charles Unkefer; and a daughter-in-law, Ann E. Sheppard.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by a son, Alpha “Al” Dixon Edwards Jr.; two brothers, Joseph “Joe” Wells and Garland Wells; three sisters, Doris Weatherington, Retha Cutler and Lena Lee.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Renaida Moore for the love and devotion given to their mother every day, treating her as if she were her own mother.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home of her daughter, Nellie Walkinshaw, 125 McNair St., Washington.
