Perqiumans' girls advance to finals

CHOCOWINITY -- The Gates County Red Barons and the Perquimans Pirates met at Southside High School for a Four Rivers Conference Tournament game Thursday night. The Pirates send the Red Barons home with a 20-point loss, 47-27.
Perquimans scored the game's first 12 points and never looked back. Gates County only managed five points in the opening quarter while the Pirates tallied 16. Tosha Leary led the way for the Pirates with five points.
Things did not look up for the Red Barons in the second quarter. The team managed to put seven more points on the board before halftime. The Pirates were led once again by Leary, who had four points in a 15-point second quarter to take a commanding 19-point lead into the locker room.
The size advantage for Perquimans became more evident as Kamisha Foreman dominated the paint to post six points in the third. The Red Barons only posted two points for the period.
Gates County finally broke the double digit barrier in the final quarter as they tallied 13 points to close out the game.
Foreman led all scorers with 12 points. Other leading Pirates were Leary and Ashley Seasons, who both finished with nine, and Anisha Spelliman, who had eight. Leading the way for the Red Barons was Casey Tinkham with 10 points and Amecia Goodman with seven.
The Red Barons were without their starting center, Keli Boone, who sat out because of a dislocated thumb.
