Mrs. Zadie Ella Gray Midgett, 85, of 8801 Red Oak Court, Raleigh, and formerly of Hyde County, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at Rex Hospital, Raleigh.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in the chapel of Randolph Funeral Home, 219 N. Bonner St., Washington, with Evangelist Dennis Davis, eulogist, and the Rev. Daniel Sanders presiding. Burial will follow in the Charles Midgett Memorial Garden, Scranton.
Mrs. Midgett was born in Hyde County on Jan. 18, 1918. She was the daughter of the late Ulysses Gray and Ludie Sanders Gray. She was a 1938 graduate of the Hyde County Training School. She was a retired licensed beautician. In December 1942, she married Charles Midgett Sr., who preceded her in death. She was a member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, Durham, where she formerly served as church secretary, church treasurer and youth counselor.
Survivors include one daughter, Ernestine Margo Midgett Newkirk of Raleigh; one stepson, Charles Midgett Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; one son-in-kind, Robert Jones of Durham; three sisters, Ann Eliza Gray Howard of Annapolis, Md., Enda Pearline Gray Randolph of Baltimore, Md., and Dr. Mary Allene Gray Anderson of Newburg, Md.; two brothers, George T. Gray of Burlington, N.J., and Wilbert L. Gray of Baltimore, Md.; 12 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Ronnie Lee Midgett; and one stepdaughter, Pearline Midgett Latham.
The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Ernestine Newkirk, 8801 Red Oak Court, Raleigh.
