AWC John Robert Coltrain III, USN (Ret), 58, of the 1800 block of Finsbury Lane, passed away Feb. 20, 2003 in Norfolk.
A native of Williamston, Mr. Coltrain retired in 1987 as a Chief Petty Officer with the U.S. Navy after 21 years of service. He was employed with Raytheon Corp. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Fleet Reserve Association and a Naval veteran of the Vietnam era. He was an alternate member of the Navy Shooting Team for the 1976 Olympics.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Maxine Pack Coltrain, and his father, John R. Coltrain Jr. of Nashville. He is also survived by his two daughters Elaine Linstruth and her husband, Chris, of Lancaster, Calif., and Karen Ann Coltrain of Virginia Beach; a son, Michael A. Coltrain of Virginia Beach; a brother, Richard A. Coltrain of Jamesville; two grandchildren, Anna Linstruth and Elizabeth Linstruth. He was preceded in death by his mother Elizabeth Coltrain.
A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Poplar Chapel Church of Christ by Pastor Ernie Robertson. Interment will follow in Jamesville Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, 3600 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, Va., 757-463-0150. Visitation will be Monday evening at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. with a service on Tuesday with military honors at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the National Rifle Association.
