Emmanuel bounces back, tops Wanchese

HAVELOCK -- Emmanuel Christian School's varsity boys rebounded from Thursday's opening loss in the opening round of the N.C. Christian Athletic Conference Eastern Regionals and beat Wanchese 58-46 Friday.
Emmanuel (13-8) will face Fayetteville Christian School this morning at 10 for fifth place.
Cameron Lawrence scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Joey Rieg added 18 points and seven rebounds. Rieg scored 12 points in the decisive third quarter as the Cavaliers took a 48-36 lead into the fourth. Rieg connected on two of his four 3-pointers in the period.
Lawrence helped Emmanuel stay close to Wanchese in the second quarter, scoring eight points. Wanchese used a 12-2 run to take a big lead before Emmanuel head coach Michael Chandler called time with 6:30 left in the half. Chandler switched his team's defense to a man-to-man and Emmanuel scored 11 straight to get back into the ball game.
