Mr. Willie Edward Carter, 85, of 785 Flat Swamp Road, Blounts Creek, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at home.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Saint Anna Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. David Moore Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Carter was born in Beaufort County on March 4, 1918. He was the son of the late William Henry Carter and Elizabeth Davis Carter. He attended the Beaufort County schools. He was married to Addie Birt Carter, who survives. He was a member of Saint Anna Missionary Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the Deacon Board and in many other capacities. He was an active participant of the New Bern Eastern District Missionary Baptist Association.
Survivors include three daughters, Doris Chapman of Blounts Creek, Carolyn Moore of Washington and Nancy Howard of Brooklyn, N.Y.; six sons, Melvin Carter and Clayton Carter, both of Blounts Creek; William Carter of Greenville, Carl Carter of Jersey City, N.J.; Alton Carter of Aurora and Horace Carter of Chocowinity; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren and one brother, Lorenza Carter of Blounts Creek.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the chapel of Whitfield &Whitley Funeral Home, Washington and other times at the home.
