Plymouth baseball, softball win

PLYMOUTH -- Plymouth's baseball team picked up two victories over Creswell on Monday. The Vikings (3-0) beat Creswell 13-0 in three innings in the first contest and 11-0 in the second.
Dustin Edwards, a junior right-hander, pitched a perfect game, striking out seven of the nine batters he faced. The Vikings used eight hits to score 11 runs in the first inning. Jacob Bowen had a two-run triple that highlighted the frame.
Plymouth took the second contest 11-0. Jacob Bowen, a sophomore right-hander, gave up just one hit while striking out six, walking three and hitting two batters. Dustin Edwards tripled in two of Plymouth's three runs in the first inning. Brant West drove in two runs with a double in the second.
Plymouth goes to Columbia today.

Saunders gets two victories
PLYMOUTH -- Ashley Saunders continues to excel on the mound for Plymouth, leading the Vikings to a doubleheader sweep of Creswell on Monday. Both games went just three innings.
Saunders went three innings in the first game, a 10-0 Plymouth (3-0) victory. She fanned nine, walked one and allowed Creswell's lone hit.
In the second, an 18-0 Viking victory, Saunders (3-0) fanned eight and walked two while not allowing a hit.
Plymouth scored six times in the first inning in the opener. Emily Swain singled and stole second, third and home. Frannie Pittman drove in a pair of runs with a single, while Brittany Harrell doubled home two runs.
The Vikings had five hits and benefited from 12 walks in the team's 17-run first in the nightcap.

Raiders win opener
PUNGO -- Sanne Pernoz ripped a three-run home run to help propel Pungo to a season-opening 18-1 win over Enfield on Monday.
Allison Phelps earned the pitching win. She fanned nine and walked one, while helping her own cause with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.
Hunter Johnson added three hits and Kristen Smith two for the Raiders.
Pungo visits Cape Hatteras today for a doubleheader.

Northside wins tri-match
CHOCOWINITY -- B.J. Marsh earned medalist honors with a 43, helping lead Northside to a tri-match victory over Southside and Cape Hatteras on Monday.
Northside finished with 195 at Cypress Landing Country Club, followed by Southside (203) and Cape Hatteras (226).
Arpit Patel and Russ Davis each had 47 to lead Southside.

WILLIAMSTON -- Drew Batts and Matt Hardison both shot under 40 to lead Williamston to a tri-match victory over Plymouth and Perquimans at Williamston Roanoke Country Club on Monday.
Batts fired a 38 and Matt Hardison a 39 for the Tigers. Adam Hedgepeth earned medalist honors with a 37 for Plymouth.
Plymouth travels to Edenton on Thursday for a non-conference match.
