It might have been cold at J.G. "Choppy" Wagner Stadium, but Washington Pam Pack goalie Samantha Yates kept warm by staying awfully busy in the box.
Yates did the best she could, turning back 17 Manteo shots. But the Redskins (2-0) had a bit too much speed for the Pam Pack (0-3-1) to deal with on Monday, taking a 6-0 victory.
Washington managed just four shots and goal.
Manteo blistered Yates and Lauren Alligood with 37 shots on goal, capitalizing on three each half.
After getting stymied the first 24 minutes of the game, the Redskins came to life by scoring two quick goals. Charlee Ulmer started the scoring by racing uncontested for 25 yards down the left side of the field, then blasting a shot into the left corner of the net.
Some three minutes later, the Redskins tacked on another score. Tricia Batten used a nice spin move to free herself before lacing a shot into the left corner.
Whitney Roberson made it 3-0 with two minutes remaining in the half. Using nice ball control, Roberson juked a defender before poking the ball past a diving Yates.
Roberson scored her second goal, nailing a long blast over the hands of a leaping Yates 15 minutes into the second half. Three minutes later, Casey Absher's header in front of the net made it a 5-0 advantage.
Haley Sullivan capped the scoring by putting in a rebound after the ball glanced off the post.
Despite the loss, Brand was pleased with his team's performance.
The Pam Pack return to action Wednesday at home against D.H. Conley.
