Mrs. Mary Josephine Lanier Gibbs, 65, of 1541 Farrow's Fork Road, the Middletown community, Engelhard, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Soule Cemetery with the Rev. Don Hall, Steve Bryan and Sam Eburn Jr. officiating.
Mrs. Gibbs was born in Beaufort County on Dec. 3, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Ronald and Lillian Carawan Lanier. She was married to Al Kenneth Gibbs, who survives. She worked for a number of years in the cafeteria at Pungo Christian Academy in Belhaven and later at Etheridge Oil and Gas in Engelhard until her health declined and she had to retire. She was a member of Engelhard Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Lorna G. Quidley of the home; one brother, Herman Lanier of LaGrange; two sisters, Lessie L. Selby of Engelhard and Gladys L. Spruill of Creswell; and one grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one half brother, Bill Nichols.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter.
