Terra Ceia golf wins

EDENTON -- Terra Ceia Christian's golf team won its opening match of the season on Monday at Chowan Country Club.
The Knights picked up a 344 score to beat Ridgecroft, which had a 412, and Lawrence, which carded a 432.
Brett Haselden earned medalist honors from Terra Ceia, shooting an 83 over 18 holes. Scott Clark carded an 85 while Derrick Joyner had an 87 and Will Taylor had an 89. Terra Ceia's other golfers were Michael Van Staalduinen (93) and John Van Staalduinen (102).
Terra Ceia (1-0) hosts the same two teams April 7 at Cypress Landing in Chocowinity.
Plymouth wins meet
PLYMOUTH -- Plymouth's golf team picked up a victory Monday over Northside and Perquimans.
The Vikings had a 200 score while Northside had a 207 and Perquimans carded a 250. Samuel Brown shot a two-over 38 to earn medalist honors for the Vikings.
Other Plymouth golfers were Adam Hedgepeth with a 39, Brandon Smith with a 55, Will Barkovitz with a 68, Tabitha Acree with a 69 and Timmy Smith with a 70.
Golfers for Northside were B. J. Marsh (45), William Everett (52), Chip Davis (54), Matt Neal (56) and Matt Francis (69). Golfers for Perquimans were John Casey (57), Austin Eure (60), Mark Poom (65), Adam Lassiter (68) and Michael Wood (70).
Plymouth improved to 2-1 and travels to Bayview Country Club to take on Northside and Cape Hatteras on Monday.
Chocowinity baseball falls
CHOCOWINITY -- Chocowinity Middle School's baseball team dropped a 14-9 decison to Columbia in seven innings on Monday in its season opener.
Chocowinity (0-1) rallied from an 8-6 deficit in the sixth to force extra innings.
Fitzgerald Parks and Mike Jones each batted 2-for-3 with two runs to lead Chocowinity. Lee Wood didn't get a hit but did score three runs.
Chocowinity goes to Columbia Wednesday.
Chocowinity softball wins
CHOCOWINITY -- Chocowinity's softball team picked up a 15-3 victory over Columbia in middle school action on Monday.
Resla Penn got the win and also scored a run. Shannon Taylor scored three runs while Jessica Sullivan, Caroline Guard, Brittany Chanuncey and Chelsi Chandler each scored two runs. Danielle Jarman, Jessica Laughinghouse and Hannah Taylor each scored one run.
Chocowinity (1-0) goes to Columbia on Wednesday.
Bath softball wins first
SWAN QUARTER -- Bath Middle School's softball team picked up its first victory on the season Monday, rolling past Mattamuskeet 26-8.
Meredith Duke picked up the victory, giving up three hits and six walks while striking out nine over six innings.
Casey Lewis batted 3-for-5 with a double to lead Bath (1-2). Casey Alligood was 2-for-6 while Cameron Blake, Kendall Cox, Samantha Tetterton, Lauren Rodriguez and Paige Hill each added one hit.
Bath hosts Mattamuskeet Wednesday.
P.S. Jones falls
WILLIAMSTON -- The P.S. Jones Middle School baseball team dropped a 3-2 decision to Williamston on Monday.
Hardy Andrews batted 3-for-4 to pace the Demons (1-1). Jeffrey Boyd and J.D. Robinson each batted 1-for-4 while Josh Woolard was 1-for-2 and Dean Smith and Trey Whitley were each 1-for-3.
Boyd took the loss on the mound, giving up two runs on a hit and two walks in two innings. He struck out two. Trey Whitley started, giving up a run on three hits, striking out one and walking four over four innings.
P.S. Jones hosts Tucker Creek Wednesday at the Susiegray McConnell Athletic Complex.
