Pirates fall to Campbell

GREENVILLE -- Four Campbell pitchers limited East Carolina to six hits as the Camels defeated the Pirates 4-1 Tuesday night.
With the loss the Pirates fall to 16-8-1 overall, while Campbell improves to 9-16.
Pirate junior Ryan Jones continued his torrid approach at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three singles. Jones has now recorded multiple hits in eight of the past 12 games.
ECU freshman Jason Neitz (1-1) made his second career start and tied his career-high for strikeouts with six in 6 2/3 innings pitched, but surrendered three runs and suffered his first career loss.
Campbell's Jason Brown hit a pair of solo home runs for the Camels. Brown homered to right field in the second and to center field in the eighth.
The Camels also scored a single run in the fifth and seventh innings as Phillip Strickland drove in both runs with a pair of RBI singles.
The Pirates lone run came in the fourth as sophomore Darryl Lawhorn hit his sixth home run of the year.
Although Jeff Stovall (2-3) gave up the home run to Lawhorn, he still managed to pick up his second win of the year, tossing two innings. Josh Blades recorded his first save of the season, retiring three of four batters he faced in the ninth.
East Carolina returns to action on Wednesday at UNC-Wilmington. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 7 p.m.
