Bertha M. Witt, 92, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 at the Gardens of Pamlico.
She was born in South Creek, daughter to the late William H. Mayo and Martha Powers Mayo.
She worked with the Naval Air Station in Norfolk, Va., until she retired. She returned to her roots in South Creek. She was a dedicated and longtime member of South Creek Baptist Church. The church and the church family were very dear to her. She loved the outdoors and spent many hours in her yard taking care of her flowers. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tucker B. Witt, two brothers, Carlos and Jessie Mayo; and four sisters, Anna Lupton, Olivia Caho, Betty Brown and Clara Whorton. She is survived by one brother, Bill Mayo and his wife Myra of South Creek; two sisters, Jean Keel and husband Philip of Kingsport, Tenn., and Ella Toler and her husband John of Alliance, and several nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be Sunday at Bryant Funeral Home from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday, Jan. 8, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home with the Revs. Dick Barber and Jack Bowen officiating. Interment will be at the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Virginia Beach. Flowers are welcomed, but those who prefer are asked to make memorial donations to Hospice of Pamlico, P.O. Box 949, Bayboro, NC 28515.
