RALEIGH — Rue Marshall Harris, 75, died peacefully at her home in Raleigh on Wednesday, January 10, 2007.
The family will receive visitors at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road, Garner, NC, on Friday, January 12, between 7 and 9 p.m. At other times, the family will gather at the home of her son, Bill Harris, at 6117 Krandon Drive, Raleigh, NC.
Suzanne Owens, Chaplain for Hospice of Wake County, will conduct a funeral service at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 13. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens on Highway 70 between Raleigh and Durham.
Rue was the daughter of William Guy Marshall, Sr., and Thelma Lee Cuthrell Marshall of Engelhard, NC. She is survived by her son, Bill Harris, and his wife Ann of Raleigh and her daughter, Lynn Guthrie, and her husband Lee of Greensboro; three grandchildren, Todd Harris and his wife Teresa of Raleigh, Leslie Carlyle and her husband Kenny of Greensboro, and Laurie Calfee and her husband Worth of Raleigh; three great-grandchildren, Casey Harris of Raleigh and Lily and Reagan Carlyle of Greensboro. Also surviving are her sister Earlyne Gibbs and her sister-in-law Gilda Marshall, both of Engelhard, NC, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, William Guy Marshall, Jr. (Billy).
Rue had a 40-year career in the mortgage loan business beginning with Stockton, White &Company and ending as Vice President and Corporate Secretary of First Citizens Mortgage Company. She was known for her fierce independence and her abundant generosity. She cared for many family members and friends who knew her as “Rue Mama.”
