Mrs. Josephine Brinn Gibbs, 79, of 11106 North Lake Road, Engelhard died Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, in Johnston County Memorial Hospital in Smithfield.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at New Life Assembly of God with pastor Jim Wells and pastor Azariah Jeyakumar officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery next door to her home.
Mrs. Gibbs was born in Hyde County on Dec. 30, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Clarence and Bertha Sawyer Brinn. She was married to Benjamin Franklin Gibbs, who preceded her in death. She was a member of New Life Assembly of God in Engelhard.
Survivors include five sons, Cleaven G. Gibbs of Engelhard, Curley B. Gibbs of Youngsville, Benjamin F. Gibbs Jr. of Engelhard, David I. Gibbs of Washington and Mickel A. Gibbs of Engelhard; seven daughters, Grace G. Ball of Ayden, Betty G. Coffield of Washington, Loye G. Parrish of Clayton, Sophia G. Lynn of Raleigh, Glenda G. Blinson and Dianne G. Kaleel, both of Clayton, and Brenda Gibbs of Raleigh; one stepson, Gladford Gibbs of Engelhard; two stepdaughters, Hazel G. Pledger of Engelhard and Lila Mae G. Manning of Chocowinity; a twin brother, Joseph Lee Brinn of Oxford, Mich., and two others brothers, James Lynn Brinn of Palatka, Fla., and Clarence Brinn Jr. of Manteo; 45 grandchildren; 24 step-grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lena Lee Gibbs; two grandsons, Curley Bradshaw Gibbs Jr. and Paul Byrd; four brothers, Grady, Hallet, Gordon and Robert Brinn; one sister, Grace B. Tibbetts; three step-sons, William A. Gibbs, William Selby Gibbs, Frankie Gibbs; and two step-daughters, Hilda G. Beasley and Nelsie Gray Gibbs.
The family will receive friends at the New Life Assembly of God Monday evening from 7 to 9 and other times at the home.
