Mr. William Raleigh White, 73, of 148 W. Askewville St., Askewville, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Askewville Baptist Church with the Revs. Tony Warren and R.O. Denton Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery.
Mr. White was born in Bertie County on July 22, 1933. He was the son of the late Raleigh Gilbert and Viola Mizelle White. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was married to Mary Johnson White, who survives. He was the owner of R.W. White Inc. He was retired from the Askewville Fire and Rescue, a former town commissioner, former police officer and charter member of the Askewville Lions’ Club. He was a member of the N.C. Forestry Association, the N.C. Baptist Men’s Disaster Team and a pro logger.
Survivors include two sons, Stevie Nelson White and Bill White, both of Askewville; one daughter, Sue Cowan of Askewville; one brother, Dancy White of Askewville; two sisters, Elmarie W. Johnson of Windsor, and Christine W. Cobb of Askewville; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8:30 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor.
