Prep hoopsters hoping to make it to March

The road to Reynolds Coliseum tips off Monday.
Eight area boys teams and seven girls teams qualified for the NCHSAA Class 1-A state playoffs. All have hopes of playing for the state championship March 10 at Reynolds Coliseum, located at N.C. State University.
The boys games begin Monday. Roanoke and Mattamuskeet, who earned No. 1 seeds in their respective conferences, will be home, along with second-seeded Jamesville.
Plymouth, Williamston, Columbia, Creswell and Bear Grass will all be on the road in the first round.
The Roanoke Redskins (24-2), the top seed from the Atlantic Conference, will play host to the Perquimans Pirates. Perquimans (10-15) is the third seed from the Albemarle Conference. The winner will play the winner between Plymouth and Southeast Halifax.
Mattamuskeet (14-8) is the top seed from the Tideland Conference. The Lakers will welcome Northampton-East into town. The Rams (12-11) are the fourth seed from the Tar Roanoke Conference. The winner will play the winner between Manteo and Jamesville.
The Williamston Tigers (13-11), the third seed from the Atlantic Conference, will play at the Jamesville Bullets. Jamesville (13-9) is the second seed from the Tideland Conference. The winner will play the winner between North Edgecombe and Creswell.
The Plymouth Vikings are the second seed from the Atlantic Conference. Plymouth (12-7) will travel to Southeast Halifax. The Trojans (19-4), the second seed from the Tar Roanoke Conference, is hosting based on seeding priority. The winner play the winner between Roanoke and Perquimans.
Columbia will travel to Manteo for the first round. The Wildcats (12-11) are the third seed from the Tideland Conference, while the host Redskins (14-11) are the second seed from the Albemarle Conference. The winner will play the winner between Mattamuskeet and Northampton-East.
The Creswell Tigers will visit North Edgecombe. Creswell (10-10) is the fourth seed from the Tideland Conference, while the North Edgecombe Warriors (17-6) are the top seed from the Tar Roanoke Conference. The winner will play the winner between Columbia and Williamston.
The Bear Grass Bears, out of the Tideland Conference, earned a wild-card entry. Bear Grass (8-14) will play at Topsail. The Pirates (15-9) are the top seed from the Coastal Plains Conference. The winner will play the winner between East Bladen and Union.
All games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Second round games will be played Wednesday.
GIRLS
The girls games begin Tuesday.
Plymouth and Columbia locked up home games for the first round, while Williamston, Roanoke, Bear Grass, Creswell and Southside will be on the road.
The Plymouth Vikings (16-2), the top seed from the Atlantic Conference, will play host to the Camden Bruins (5-19), the third seed from the Albemarle Conference. The winner will take on the winner between Roanoke and Southeast Halifax.
Columbia is the second seed out of the Tideland Conference. The Wildcats (12-10) will play host to the Williamston Tigers (16-6), the third seed from the Atlantic Conference. The winner will face the winner between Bear Grass and Weldon.
The Roanoke Redskins (18-8), the second seed from the Atlantic Conference, will play at Southeast Halifax. The Trojans (13-8), the second seed out of the Tar Roanoke Conference, will host based on seeding priority. The winner will battle the winner between Plymouth and Camden.
Bear Grass is the fourth seed out of the Atlantic Conference. The Bears (11-14) will visit Weldon. The Chargers (19-3) are the top seed from the Tar Roanoke Conference. The winner plays the winner between Columbia and Williamston.
The Creswell Tigers (10-8), the third seed from the Tideland Conference, will play at Manteo. The Redskins (8-17) are the second seed from the Albemarle Conference. The winner will face the winner between Cape Hatteras and Northampton-East.
Southside is a wild-card entry. The Seahawks (7-15), out of the Atlantic Conference, will play at East Carteret. The Mariners (16-3) are the top seed from the Coastal Plains Conference. The winner will take on the winner between South Robeson and Wallace-Rose Hill.
All games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Second round games will be played Thursday.
LOOKING AHEAD
Sectional final games will be held at Northside High School on Friday and Saturday. The boys finals will be Friday at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. The girls games will be played Saturday at 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Winners there will advance to regional competition. The regional boys games will be held Feb. 27 to March 3 at East Carolina’s Minges Coliseum, while girls games will be held at J.H. Rose High School in Greenville.
