Ona Mae Brooks

Mrs. Ona Mae Bunch Brooks, age 94, a former resident of East Pungo Street, Belhaven, and a current resident of Autumnfield Rest Home, died Saturday March 10, 2007, at Pungo District Hospital in Belhaven.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven, officiated by the Rev. Rodney Bunch and the Rev. Jason Blanton. Burial will follow in Belhaven Community Cemetery.
Mrs. Brooks was born in Chowan County on July 18, 1912, daughter of the late Rufus Nollie Bunch and the late Peanie Bell Dail Bunch. She was a graduate of Chowan County Schools and married Paul Price “Doc” Brooks, Sr., who preceded her in death on July 11, 1954. Mrs. Brooks was a seamstress and clerk with Belhaven Cleaners until her retirement. She was a member of the Belhaven Senior Center and First Baptist Church of Smithton and a former member of Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Paul P. Brooks, Jr. of Chapman, Nebraska, and William “Pete” Brooks of Niceville, Fla.; a sister, Elva Bunch Smith of Belhaven; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by five brothers, Eldred Bunch, Murphy Bunch, Velton Bunch, Douglas Bunch and Donald Bunch.
The Brooks family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2007. at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven.
