The Rev. Robert F. Burke, 73, of 1196 Jefferson Road, Pinetown, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at Craven Regional Medical Center, New Bern.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Hillside Funeral Service, Washington, with the Revs. Bobby Carden, Wesley Taylor, Gene Gilbert and David Thick officiating. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens with military honors.
Alton Ausbon, Carroll Whitehurst, Larry Bullock, Mack Wallace, Delma Beach, Christ Liverman and Al Watson will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Burke was born in Coeburn, Va., on May 23, 1934. He was the son of the late James H. and Mattie Hillman Burke. On Jan. 15, 1957, he married the former Georgia Corder, who survives. He attended Coeburn High School and worked with Greyhound Bus Lines before becoming an ordained Free Will Baptist minister in 1965. He pastored many Free Will Baptist churches in North Carolina. At one time, he was a part-time employee of Hillside Funeral Service.
Survivors include two daughters, Shelia Jett of Pinetown, and Terri Butler of Newport; one sister, Flo Sexton of Jerrett, Va.; one brother, Jack Houston Burke of Lordsburg, N.M.; two grandchildren and one god-grandchild.
The family will receive friends today from 6:30-9 p.m. at Hillside Funeral Service, Washington.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Robert F. Burke Memorial Fund, 4500 U.S. Highway 264 East, Washington, NC 27889.
