Mrs. Dallas Elks Boyd, age 89, a resident of 1515 Wharton Station Road, Washington died Thursday, March 15, 2007 at her home.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2007 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home, Washington, conducted by Eddie Bowen. Burial will follow at Pamlico Memorial Gardens.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Kevin Boyd, Benton Daw, Willie Toler, Randy Ross, Hilton Noe and Jimmie Perry.
Her great grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers: Zachary, Joshua, and Nicholas Ross, Zeke Alvarez and Austin Boyd.
Mrs. Boyd was born in Pitt County on April 26, 1917. She was the daughter of the late Daniel Elks and Amy Hamm Elks. Mrs. Boyd was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife. She was a member of the Old Ford Church of Christ. Mrs. Boyd sang in the church choir as long as her health permitted. She was a member and former secretary of the Golden Agers Sunday School class. Mrs. Boyd was also a member of the Circle #3 of the church and the JOY group.
On November 20, 1932, she married Willie C. Boyd, who preceded her in death on February 5, 1975.
Survivors include her four children, Linwood Earl Boyd and his wife, Joyce, Danny L. Boyd, Cheryl B. Toler and Karen Daw Edwards and her husband, J. F. Jeff all of Washington; six grandchildren, Kevin Boyd, Tammy B. Ross, Alyson Boyd, Cheryl Lee Noe, Willie Toler, Benton Daw; seven great grandchildren, Zachary, Joshua and Nicholas Ross, Zeke Alvarez, Leanne Harlie Noe, Austin Boyd, Alexis Boyd; two brothers, Lester Elks and his wife, Dorothy of Grimesland, C.S. Elks and his wife, Nellie, of Chocowinity; two sisters, Doris Moore of Charlotte, Evelyn Edwards of Simpson; and sister in law, Vivian Elks of Grimesland.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Boyd was preceded in death by a grandson, Charlie Toler; a great grandson, Justin Boyd; a sister, Janie Elks Brame; and a brother, Tommy Elks.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2007 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington and other times at the home.
