Sallie Harris Midyette, 84, of 196 Lazy Lane, Engelhard, affectionately known by family and friends as “Sunny”, died Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at Britthaven of Washington, where she had recently resided as a patient.
Born in Hyde County, March 26, 1923, she was the daughter of the late James Maliston and Victoria Cahoon Harris. She was married to Hassell Elwood Midyette in 1942. He preceded her in death in 1989. She and her husband operated the former Midyette Esso Station in Engelhard until 1985 and then operated Engelhard Texaco.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Hyde Chapter 213 where she was a Past Worthy Matron and Past Deputy Grand Matron and was a member of Engelhard Christian Church.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Family Plot in Soule Cemetery, Swan Quarter. Scott Sukeforth, her pastor, and Steve Bryan will officiate.
Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Midyette Etheridge and her husband, Tommy of Engelhard; two grandsons, Jay Etheridge and his wife, Sherry and Randy Etheridge; great-grandsons, Drake Etheridge, Dalton Etheridge and Deacon Etheridge.
Mrs. Midyette was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl Harris, Liston Harris and William Harris; six sisters, Elma Dean Harris, Dorothy Gibbs, Nola Cahoon, Lucy Cahoon, Rena Gibbs and Mary Credle.
The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the administration and staff of Britthaven of Washington for their many acts of love and care that have been extended..
Memorials are suggested to the Engelhard Christian Church, Engelhard, N.C. 27824.
The family will receive friends at Bryan Funeral Service in Swan Quarter from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday evening and other times at the home of Tommy and Barbara Etheridge in Engelhard.
