Mr. William Leon Dunbar, age 84, of 499 Lake Rd., Pantego, died Monday, April 23, 2007 at Pitt Co. Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2007 at Davis Cemetery in the Pungo Community. Rupert Wallace, Pastor Phil Ange and Pastor Walter Taylor will conduct the services.
Mr. Dunbar was born in Beaufort Co. on October 11, 1922 to the late Dallas and Ada Allen Dunbar and on July 27, 1965 he married Claudia Joel Lewis who survives. He was a graduate of Plymouth High School, served in the United States Army, 2nd Cavalry during WWII where he was awarded numerous medals for his service and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Union Grove Church of Christ, Belhaven American Legion Post #249, Plymouth VFW Post #04023 and was a charter member, past president and former treasurer of the Pungo River Ruritan Club.
Survivors include his wife, Claudia Joel Dunbar of the home; one son, Kenneth A. Dunbar of Pantego; one granddaughter, Laura Ashley Dunbar of Pantego; one brother, Henry O. Dunbar of Southern Pines; two sisters, Virginia H. Tetterton of Plymouth and Hazel H. Ange of Knightdale.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and other times at the home, 499 Lake Rd., Pantego.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
