Lance Corporal Johnathan Ernest Kirk, age 25, a resident of 613 Chambers Point Road, Pamlico Beach Community, Belhaven died Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at the National Navy Medical Center in Bethesda, MD as a result of injuries sustained during his tour of duty in Iraq.
A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2007, at Pamlico Beach Community Cemetery at Ryder Hill officiated by Dean Fulford.
Chris Mercer, Matt Jordan, Randall Moore, Josh Woolard, Georgie Hopkins, Jr., Noland Wilkins, Jr., Jesse Tetterton and McKinley Foster will serve as pallbearers. Michael Potter, Ryan Hopkins, and Joseph R. Foster will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Johnathan was born in Beaufort County on March 24, 1982, son of John Willis Kirk and Glenda Bryson Hopkins. He was a 2000 graduate of Northside High School and received an associate’s degree from Beaufort County Community College. Johnathan was a member of the United States Marine Corps. He attended Wades Point Pentecostal Holiness Church.
He is survived by his mother: Glenda Jean Bryson Hopkins and her husband, Robbie of Belhaven; his father: John Willis Kirk and his wife, Donna of Washington; his brothers: Shaun Hopkins and Benjamin Hopkins both of Belhaven; his sisters: Samantha Kirk, Ashley Kirk and Katie Davis all of Washington; his paternal grandparents: John and Dorothy Kirk of Belhaven; his maternal grandmother: Velma Huggins of Belhaven; and his maternal great grandmother: Ada Foster of Belhaven. He is preceded in death by his paternal great grandparents: John and Essie Hooten and his maternal great grandfather: Benjamin Foster.
The family will receive friends Saturday 6-8:30 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven and other times at the home of his mother, Glenda Hopkins located at 613 Chambers Point Road, Belhaven, Pamlico Beach Community and the home of his father, Willis Kirk located at 105 Sweetbriar Road, Washington.
