Nancy Gust Lexo, age 53, died at home on May 7. She is survived by her husband, Jim Lexo and daughters Rebekah Zitron, Rosalie Schwimmer and Margot Schwimmer; parents Colette and Walter Gust of North Carolina; sisters Cynthia Ellert, Mary Colette Donovan and brother, Bill Gust.
Nancy was born in New York and as the child of an Army officer, she lived in Germany, Taiwan and various locations in the U.S. She graduated from Ft. Hunt High School, attended Mary Washington College and graduated from American University with a B.A. degree and received a Masters Degree from George Mason University.
Nancy taught preschool and kindergarten at Hybla Valley, Groveton and most recently at Ft. Belvoir Elementary School. While at Ft. Belvoir she was honored by the Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning through the Arts and was recognized for her outstanding and unique approaches to teaching.
Over the years Nancy wrote many poems, some of which were published. Her poetry demonstrated her wonderful imagination and great sense of humor. Her smile and positive attitude won her many friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 12 at 4 p.m. at St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church, 8531 Riverside Rd., Alexandria, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a contribution to St. Aidans with a notation for Nancy’s fund.
