Elizabeth M. ‘Beth’ Hodges

Mrs. Elizabeth Midyette “Beth” Hodges, a Washington resident, passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2007 at her home.
The funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Washington with the Reverend Canon Phillip Craig officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers are William M. Tankard, John A. Tankard, Jr., James F. Buckman, III, Dr. Richard M. Young, James L. Wilkerson, Howard L. Wilkerson, George F. Wilkerson, and Don M. Wilkerson, Jr.
A native of Beaufort County, Beth was the daughter of the late William Byron and Lalla Latham Midyette. She completed both high school and junior college at Fairfax Hall in Waynesboro, Virginia. In 1952, she was married to the late Edward Murray Hodges and they made their home in Washington. Beth was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church where she served in various capacities including the youth program, Altar Guild, and the Episcopal Church Women.
In addition to her husband, Beth was preceded in death by her brother, William B. Midyette, Jr., and her sister, Dorothy Midyette Tankard.
She is survived by: Son, Edward Murray Hodges, Jr. and wife, Pam; Daughters, Lalla H. Sidbury and husband, Forest, and Elizabeth H. “Doogie” Mason and husband, Keith, all of Washington; Grandchildren, Keith B. Mason, Jr., Edward M. “Ted” Hodges, III, and Adam A. Mason, all of Washington, and Allison P. Sidbury of Wilmington.; Special caregivers, Clarine Robertson of Washington, Evelyn Blount of Pantego and Sandra Reddick of Washington.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday at her home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
